The Role

The Assessment Associate will support the creation of engaging assessments for Newsela content that meet our users’ needs. In this role, you will contribute to the design of assessments, give feedback to freelance contributors on how to build out exceptional assessments, and conduct research and analysis to ensure our assessments are consistent and aligned to best practices. You will also lead the charge in researching assessments (best practices, efficacy, and shifting state standards), in addition to establishing and tracking quality metrics. You will play a hands-on role in helping Newsela operationalize the assessment features of our product, and in turn enable improved learning outcomes for students across the U.S.

Why You’ll Love This Role

You will get to help build the future of education, enhance how districts and teachers engage students, and provide time-saving approaches that allow educators to design customized learning assessments for different levels of learners. More specifically, this role will allow you to contribute to how Newsela is reshaping content products for districts, schools, and teachers nationwide. You will get to play a crucial role in establishing process and operations to scalably instructionalize Newsela’s assessments. You will also build hands-on experience directing freelance contributors, and will serve as a key point person for all-things assessments at Newsela.

Why We’ll Love You

Drawing on your 2+ years in the classroom or in assessment production, you have experience developing, designing, and evaluating assessments that align to national educational standards. You are fluent in (or at least familiar with) Common Core, TEKS, C3 Framework, NCSS Standards, or NGSS, and are able to make informed decisions that ensure strong instructional resources for teachers and students. You have a proven track record of working with adult learners to coach them on learning targets and execution, and know how to thoughtfully architect data-informed strategies to enhance learning outcomes; you are fiercely committed to thinking about what is best for students and for teachers. You are a clear communicator who can give direct, empathetic feedback, and can share your insights about the complex world of teaching and learning to people of different backgrounds.
